New pain block matches epidural for bladder surgery recovery

NCT ID NCT06324253

First seen Mar 01, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tested two methods of pain control after radical cystectomy (bladder removal) surgery. Twenty adults received either a standard epidural or a newer ultrasound-guided nerve block (erector spinae plane block). Researchers measured how long pain relief lasted, pain scores, and the need for extra pain medicine. The goal was to see if the newer block works as well as the epidural.
