New pain block may offer better relief after gallbladder surgery
NCT ID NCT06588777
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 31 times
Summary
This study compares two ultrasound-guided nerve blocks—M-TAPA and quadratus lumborum block—for pain after laparoscopic gallbladder removal. Fifty-two adults undergoing surgery will receive one of the two blocks, and researchers will measure how long it takes before they need additional pain medicine. The goal is to find which block provides longer-lasting pain relief and reduces the need for opioids.

What this could lead to
If one block proves better, it could lead to improved pain control after gallbladder surgery, reducing the need for strong painkillers.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 52 participants. Results may not apply to all patients, and individual responses to nerve blocks vary.
