Mind over muscle: study reveals how pain anticipation alters your walk

NCT ID NCT07251387

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at how the fear of pain affects the way your muscles work together when you walk. Researchers will use a special cream to create a brief pain experience in one group, then give them a harmless cream they think is painful. A second group gets only the harmless cream. By comparing muscle activity, the team hopes to understand how expecting pain changes movement. The study involves 34 healthy adults aged 18-35.
