Heart-Lung machine part may raise bleeding risk during surgery
NCT ID NCT05588011
First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looked at how two different oxygenators (artificial lungs used in heart-lung machines) affect platelet function during open-heart surgery. Platelets help blood clot, and damage to them can cause bleeding. Researchers tested 68 adults having non-emergency heart surgery to see if one oxygenator type leads to more platelet loss. The goal is to improve monitoring and reduce bleeding risks.
