Double implant hope for kids born without ears
NCT ID NCT07358728
First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study will test whether using two OSIA bone conduction implants (one on each side) helps children with severe ear malformations hear better in noisy places compared to using just one implant. Twelve children aged 7 to 17 who already use a bone conduction device will receive bilateral OSIA implants. Six months after surgery, their hearing will be tested with one implant active versus both.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
OSIA bone conduction implant system
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that bilateral OSIA implants provide better hearing in noisy environments for children with congenital ear malformations.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study with only 12 participants, so results may not apply to all children. The main risk is standard surgical complications.
