Ultrasound reveals what braces retainers do to your gums

NCT ID NCT07414264

Summary

This study aimed to see if the permanent, thin wire retainers placed behind teeth after braces cause any changes to the gums and underlying bone. Researchers used a special ultrasound device to measure gum thickness and bone levels in 53 young adults over six months after they got their retainers. The goal was to gather better information about the long-term effects of these common dental appliances using a new, radiation-free imaging method.
