Could a simple glass of water replace the IV drip in ERs?

NCT ID NCT07361952

First seen Jan 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving patients plain water to drink can be as effective as fluids through an IV for adults in the emergency department who need fluid therapy. About 250 adults will be randomly assigned to either drink tap water or receive standard IV fluids. The main goal is to see if both groups get the same amount of fluid as prescribed by their doctor, and to check if a larger trial is possible.
