Emergency room study: could a glass of water replace the IV drip?
NCT ID NCT07361952
First seen Jan 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study compares giving fluids by mouth (drinking tap water) versus through an IV to adults in the emergency department who need hydration. Researchers want to see if drinking water can deliver the prescribed amount of fluid just as well as an IV. The trial will also test whether it's practical to run a larger study on this question. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods and monitored during their stay.
