First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a simple oral hygiene routine could prevent aspiration pneumonia in hospitalized stroke patients. Aspiration pneumonia is a common and serious lung infection that can happen when food or saliva goes into the lungs instead of the stomach. The study compared 90 stroke patients: some received a structured mouth-care plan from nurses, while others got standard care. The goal was to see if better oral care could lower the number of pneumonia cases.
