Eye ultrasound may help track brain pressure during heart bypass surgery

NCT ID NCT07253922

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looked at whether ultrasound measurements of the optic nerve sheath (the lining around the eye nerve) can detect changes in brain pressure during open-heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine. Researchers measured this in 40 adults undergoing elective heart surgery. The goal was to see if this simple, non-invasive technique could be a useful way to monitor brain health during these procedures.
