Can pain be managed without opioids during bariatric surgery?

NCT ID NCT05752799

First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether avoiding opioids during sleeve gastrectomy (a type of weight-loss surgery) can still control pain effectively. About 70 adults with severe obesity will be randomly assigned to receive either opioid-free anesthesia (using a mix of magnesium, dexmedetomidine, and ketamine) or standard opioid-based anesthesia. Researchers will measure pain scores and how soon patients need extra pain relief after surgery.
