Hernia surgery without opioids: can common painkillers be enough?
NCT ID NCT05929937
Summary
This study is testing whether patients can manage their pain just as effectively after routine hernia surgery without being prescribed opioid painkillers. Over 900 patients having outpatient hernia repair will be randomly assigned to receive either a small opioid prescription or no opioids at all, with everyone getting standard over-the-counter pain relievers. Researchers will compare pain levels, quality of life, and whether patients request more pain medication to see if avoiding opioids from the start is a safe and effective option.
