Summary
This study tested whether using anesthesia without opioid painkillers during heart surgery could reduce common postoperative complications. It involved 268 adults undergoing planned heart surgery with a heart-lung machine. Researchers compared a standard opioid-based anesthesia to a combination of other non-opioid drugs to see which led to fewer issues like severe pain, nausea, breathing problems, and confusion after surgery.
