Omega-3s may work differently depending on your DNA, new study finds

NCT ID NCT07078344

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study looks at whether omega-3 supplements can reduce inflammation and improve heart health in 200 healthy adults. Researchers want to see if a person's genetic makeup (specifically the FADS gene) and ancestry (African American vs. European American) affect how well omega-3s work. Participants will take omega-3 capsules or a placebo for 12 weeks, then switch to the other option, with blood tests to measure changes.
