Massive study tracks how vaccines change bacteria in Kids' noses

NCT ID NCT04460313

First seen Mar 25, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This large observational study is monitoring over 25,000 children to see how pneumococcal vaccines have changed the types of pneumococcus bacteria living in their noses. Researchers will compare children with ear infections to healthy children, looking at which bacterial strains are present and whether they resist antibiotics. The goal is to understand if the vaccines are causing new, resistant strains to emerge.
