First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This observational study looked at how obesity affects the gut barrier and the blood-brain barrier—two systems that protect the body and brain. Researchers compared 25 adults with obesity to 25 healthy adults using sugar tests, MRI scans, and thinking tests. The goal was to see if obesity leads to leakier barriers, more inflammation, and changes in memory or mood. No treatments were tested; this study simply gathered information to better understand these links.
