Can extra weight change the odds after a gunshot wound?
NCT ID NCT07788963
First seen Aug 27, 2026 · Last updated Sep 10, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looks back at the records of adults who had surgery for gunshot wounds to the abdomen or chest and abdomen. Researchers compare patients with obesity, defined by a body mass index of 30 or higher, to those without obesity. They track complications, time in the intensive care unit, need for another surgery, and survival. The goal is to see whether body weight influences recovery and to identify factors tied to worse outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If obesity is linked to worse recovery, doctors could tailor post-surgery care for these patients to reduce complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a retrospective review of past records, so it can show associations but not prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to all trauma centers.
