NCT ID NCT04907565
First seen Mar 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This completed study looked at 115 obese patients undergoing hip or heart surgery to see if inflammation in their fat tissue is linked to confusion or memory problems after the operation. Researchers collected blood and fat tissue samples during surgery and tracked patients' thinking abilities afterward. The goal was to better understand why some obese patients experience post-operative cognitive dysfunction.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help explain why some obese patients experience confusion or memory problems after surgery, pointing toward ways to prevent it.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks for a link between fat tissue inflammation and cognitive issues, so it won't directly lead to a new therapy.
