Can a PET scan predict who will suffer chronic leg pain after a blood clot?

NCT ID NCT03195777

First seen Jan 02, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested whether a special PET/CT scan can measure inflammation in deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and predict who will develop post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS), a chronic condition causing leg pain, swelling, and ulcers. Researchers followed 51 patients for up to 2 years after their first DVT, using imaging and clinical checks. The goal is to identify high-risk patients early so they can receive better treatments.
