Can a PET scan predict blood clot complications?
NCT ID NCT03195777
First seen Jan 02, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study tested whether a special PET/CT scan can measure inflammation in deep vein thrombosis (DVT) blood clots to predict who will develop post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS), a chronic condition causing leg pain, swelling, and ulcers. Researchers followed 51 patients for up to 2 years after their first DVT, using scans and regular checkups. The goal is to identify high-risk patients early so they can receive more aggressive treatment to prevent PTS.
