Texts vs. paper: can a simple message keep spine surgery patients out of the hospital?

NCT ID NCT04140344

First seen Nov 06, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looks at whether sending informative text messages to people after lumbar spine surgery can lower the chance of being readmitted to the hospital or visiting the emergency room within 30 days. About 224 adults who are getting their first lumbar fusion will be randomly assigned to receive either text messages or traditional paper handouts. The goal is to see if texts are a better way to support recovery and reduce complications.
