Could a non-opioid cocktail replace fentanyl for kidney stone pain?

NCT ID NCT07368738

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests whether a combination of non-opioid pain relievers (acetaminophen and ketorolac) can control pain as well as or better than the standard opioid fentanyl during a procedure that breaks up kidney stones with shockwaves. About 266 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either the non-opioid or opioid regimen. Researchers will compare pain scores, procedure tolerability, and side effects like nausea or low blood pressure.
