Could a breathing machine be the key to treating High-Altitude blood disorder?

NCT ID NCT07600086

First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether a non-invasive ventilator (a breathing machine) can help people with high-altitude polycythemia, a condition where the body makes too many red blood cells due to low oxygen at high altitudes. About 70 adults will receive standard care plus ventilator support using BiPAP or CPAP modes. The main goal is to see if this treatment lowers hemoglobin levels and improves other health markers over 3 to 6 months.
