Arm cuff before surgery may boost breast reconstruction success

NCT ID NCT07487220

First seen Mar 31, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested whether a non-invasive treatment called Remote Ischemic Conditioning (RIC) could improve blood flow and reduce tissue damage in women undergoing breast reconstruction with free flaps. RIC involves briefly inflating a blood pressure cuff on the arm to create short periods of reduced blood flow. The study included 49 participants and measured blood flow and oxygen levels in the transplanted tissue after surgery. The goal was to see if this simple, low-cost technique could help flaps heal better and reduce complications.
