Could nicotine gum sharpen hearing in older adults?

NCT ID NCT04971954

Summary

This study is investigating whether nicotine, given as over-the-counter gum, can help reverse age-related declines in how the brain processes sound. Researchers will recruit 48 non-smoking adults, both young and old, to complete hearing and brain activity tests after using either nicotine gum or a placebo. The goal is to understand nicotine's effects on auditory processing, which may inform future treatments for hearing difficulties.
