Summary
This study aimed to understand how the body processes a special form of vitamin B3 (nicotinamide) when given as a dietary supplement. It involved 28 people who were either hospitalized with a severe respiratory infection (like pneumonia) or had a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. Researchers measured levels of the vitamin and its byproducts in the blood over four weeks to learn how it's absorbed and used.
