Swallow a string, skip the scope? new test aims to simplify diagnosis

NCT ID NCT07027826

Summary

This study is testing whether a simpler, cheaper test called the esophageal string test can accurately diagnose eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), a condition that causes painful swallowing and inflammation. Researchers will compare the string test, where a person swallows a capsule on a string, to the current standard method which requires a more complex endoscopic procedure. The study involves 70 adults of African descent in the U.S. and Mali who have trouble swallowing.
