New triple therapy aims to shrink high-risk rectal tumors before surgery

NCT ID NCT07527520

First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tests whether a shorter course of radiation combined with chemotherapy and an immunotherapy drug (serplulimab) can help people with high-risk locally advanced rectal cancer achieve complete remission before surgery. About 165 adults with a specific type of rectal cancer (pMMR/MSS) will be randomly assigned to either the new combination or standard treatment. The goal is to see if the new approach leads to better tumor clearance and long-term outcomes.
