Infant heart surgery study seeks clues to lung damage

NCT ID NCT04296071

First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at why some infants develop lung injury after heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine. Researchers will analyze blood and lung fluid samples from 56 babies under 1 year old to understand how immune cells called neutrophils contribute to this complication. The goal is to learn more about the mechanisms involved, not to test a new treatment.
