Nerve block may ease jaw surgery pain, reduce need for opioids

NCT ID NCT05925465

First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests whether numbing the nerves in the upper and lower jaw before surgery can reduce pain and the need for rescue painkillers after the procedure. About 60 adults having elective jaw surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either the nerve block or a placebo. The main goal is to see if the block lowers the total amount of fentanyl (a strong painkiller) needed after surgery.
