Eye scans may predict kidney failure risk after surgery
NCT ID NCT04855123
First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a special eye scan (OCT-A) can predict how well the remaining kidney will work one year after kidney removal for cancer. Researchers enrolled 30 adults scheduled for total nephrectomy and checked their retinal blood vessels before surgery. The goal was to see if eye abnormalities could signal future kidney problems, but the study was ended early, so results are limited.
