Inhaled or IV? study tests best route for mucus drug in lung disease

NCT ID NCT07293884

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests whether breathing in N-acetylcysteine (a mucus-thinning drug) works better than getting it through a vein for people with bronchiectasis, a lung condition that causes thick mucus. About 70 adults hospitalized with a flare-up will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods. The goal is to see which route makes mucus easier to cough up and reduces breathing difficulty.
