New breathing assist may shorten time on ventilator for ICU patients
NCT ID NCT02382861
First seen May 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a newer breathing machine method (NAVA) helps patients with respiratory failure come off the ventilator faster than the usual method (PSV). 47 adults who had trouble weaning from ventilation were randomly assigned to one of the two methods. The goal was to see if NAVA reduces weaning time and complications like pneumonia.
