NASA tests astronaut safety in simulated spacewalks to fight 'The Bends'
NCT ID NCT06740305
Summary
This NASA-backed study aims to develop safer procedures for astronauts performing spacewalks to prevent decompression sickness, commonly known as 'the bends.' Healthy volunteers will breathe pure oxygen and then perform tasks in a low-pressure chamber that simulates a spacewalk environment. Researchers will monitor the volunteers for signs of illness and measure gas bubbles in their blood to understand and reduce the risks astronauts face.
