Scientists test astronaut safety in simulated spacewalks

NCT ID NCT06740305

Summary

This study aims to test safety procedures for astronauts to prevent decompression sickness, commonly known as 'the bends,' during spacewalks. Healthy volunteers will breathe pure oxygen and then experience low-pressure conditions in a special chamber while performing tasks. Researchers will monitor for signs of illness and use ultrasound to detect dangerous gas bubbles in the blood.
