First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study tested a method to help prevent decompression sickness (the bends) in astronauts during spacewalks. Nineteen healthy volunteers breathed pure oxygen for 6 hours, then spent 6 hours in a low-pressure chamber while exercising. Researchers monitored them for bubbles in their blood and any symptoms of decompression sickness, aiming to improve safety for future space missions.
