New drug aims to stop weight loss in lung cancer patients during treatment
NCT ID NCT07150663
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether a drug called nanocrystalline megestrol acetate can help people with advanced non-small cell lung cancer maintain their appetite and avoid significant weight loss while undergoing chemoradiotherapy. About 134 participants will receive either the drug or a placebo alongside standard treatment for up to 8 weeks. The goal is to improve quality of life during a tough treatment period.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- nanocrystalline megestrol acetate
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a way to help people with advanced lung cancer maintain their appetite and weight during intensive chemoradiotherapy.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase 3 trial, but it focuses on symptom relief, not curing the cancer. The benefits may be modest, and side effects from the drug are possible.
