Scientists peer into liver power plants to test diabetes drug effects

Summary
This study looks at how liver cells produce energy in people who have both type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Researchers will measure liver metabolism before and after 16 weeks of treatment with the diabetes drug pioglitazone. The goal is to understand how the drug affects liver function, not to cure the disease. About 60 adults aged 18-80 with stable blood sugar and body weight can join.
