Could a Mucus-Busting drug help severe asthma?

NCT ID NCT03822637

Summary

This study tested whether a drug called n-acetylcysteine (NAC), which breaks down mucus, could improve lung function in adults with moderate-to-severe asthma. Participants had evidence of mucus plugs in their lungs seen on CT scans. In this small, terminated trial, adults received either NAC or a placebo for two-week periods to compare effects on breathing.
