Asthma mucus study fizzles: NAC mist trial halted early
NCT ID NCT03822637
First seen Mar 12, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study tested a 20% n-acetylcysteine (NAC) mist to help clear mucus in people with moderate-to-severe asthma. Participants received either NAC or a placebo for two weeks, then switched. The trial was stopped early after enrolling only 4 people, so no clear conclusions can be drawn about whether NAC helps lung function or mucus.
