No gas bubble needed? new eye surgery for nearsighted patients shows promise
NCT ID NCT07129798
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests a new surgical technique to close a macular hole (a small gap in the center of the retina) in people with high nearsightedness. Instead of using a gas bubble after surgery, doctors use a gel-like substance to hold the hole closed. The goal is to see if this approach works well and avoids the downsides of gas bubbles, like blurry vision and travel restrictions. About 20 adults with a macular hole and high nearsightedness will take part.
