Soothing sounds: music therapy may ease pain in cooled newborns

NCT ID NCT06951269

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study tests whether a 15-minute live music therapy session can lower pain in newborns with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) who are receiving cooling therapy. Twenty-two babies in the NICU will either get standard care or standard care plus music after routine nursing procedures. Researchers will measure pain using a special scale, vital signs, and brain activity to see if music helps these infants feel better.
