Hidden inflammation uncovered: ultrasound could spot joint issues in IBD patients before symptoms appear
NCT ID NCT07205549
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 21, 2026 · Updated 39 times
Summary
This study will use musculoskeletal ultrasound to look for hidden joint, muscle, and tendon inflammation in 81 people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who have no known arthritis. The goal is to see how common these hidden problems are and to develop a standard ultrasound checklist for IBD patients. This is an observational study, not a treatment trial.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Musculoskeletal ultrasound (imaging test)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a standard ultrasound protocol to catch hidden joint inflammation early in IBD patients, potentially preventing long-term damage.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study with only 81 participants, so results may not apply to all IBD patients. Ultrasound findings may not always lead to better outcomes.
