Zapping muscles to save them: new ICU study tests electric shocks and protein
NCT ID NCT07430969
First seen Feb 24, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a single session of whole-body electrical stimulation, with or without a dose of amino acids, can help prevent muscle wasting in sedated ICU patients on breathing machines. Researchers will compare three groups: one getting fake stimulation, one getting real stimulation, and one getting real stimulation plus amino acids. The goal is to understand how these treatments affect muscle protein balance and blood flow.
