Shocking muscles back to health: new ICU study tests electric therapy
NCT ID NCT07430969
First seen Feb 24, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a single session of whole-body electrical muscle stimulation, with or without extra amino acids, can improve muscle protein balance in sedated ICU patients on ventilators. 30 adults will be split into three groups: sham stimulation, real stimulation, or real stimulation plus a 20g amino acid drink. Researchers will measure protein turnover and blood flow to see if these approaches can reduce muscle wasting.
