New combo therapy aims to regrow wasted leg muscles in spinal injury patients
NCT ID NCT03345576
Summary
This study tested a one-year treatment combining testosterone replacement with a special type of electrical muscle stimulation. It aimed to see if this combination could restore leg muscle size and improve overall health in 12 people with spinal cord injuries who have severe, permanent nerve damage to their leg muscles. The goal was to develop a practical rehabilitation strategy for a condition where standard exercise approaches don't work.
