New DNA test could spot TB in chest fluid without needle biopsy

NCT ID NCT05397730

First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looked at 329 adults with fluid around the lungs (pleural effusion) to see if measuring TB DNA in that fluid can diagnose tuberculosis better than standard tests. The goal is to find a faster, less invasive way to diagnose TB pleuritis, potentially avoiding painful biopsies and speeding up treatment. Results will compare the new DNA test against traditional culture and PCR methods.
