New MRI techniques may sharpen seizure surgery targeting
NCT ID NCT07384351
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether combining standard MRI with two advanced techniques—MRI volumetry and diffusion tensor imaging—can more accurately identify the seizure-causing brain area in people with temporal lobe epilepsy. Researchers will compare these imaging results with clinical outcomes in 78 participants. The goal is to improve surgical planning for epilepsy that doesn't respond to medication.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could improve how doctors pinpoint the exact brain area causing seizures, leading to more precise epilepsy surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study (78 people) that only looks at imaging results, not direct treatment outcomes. The technique may not prove reliable enough for routine use.
