Cheaper MRI scans could speed up diagnosis of dangerous artery disease

NCT ID NCT05854927

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a lower-resolution MRI can reliably diagnose giant cell arteritis (GCA), a condition that inflames arteries and can cause blindness or stroke if not treated quickly. Researchers will compare different MRI scans in 133 adults suspected of having GCA. If successful, simpler MRI machines could be used more widely, helping doctors start life-saving steroid treatment sooner.
