New mouthwash could offer gentler way to fight gum disease

NCT ID NCT07088666

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study tested two mouthwashes in 40 adults with plaque-induced gingivitis (reversible gum disease). One is the standard chlorhexidine, which can stain teeth and alter taste; the other is MicroRepair ABX, a newer formula with fewer known side effects. Participants used one of the two mouthwashes for 14 days after a professional dental cleaning. The goal was to see if MicroRepair ABX works as well as chlorhexidine in reducing gum inflammation and plaque, while being easier on the mouth.
