Talking it off: can counseling sessions tip the scale on obesity?
NCT ID NCT07745231
First seen Aug 04, 2026 · Last updated Aug 05, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether motivational interviewing—a supportive, goal-oriented counseling style—can help overweight and obese adults improve their eating habits, health literacy, and body measurements. Participants will receive either four structured counseling sessions plus routine nutrition advice, or just the routine advice alone. The trial aims to see if the added counseling leads to greater weight loss and healthier attitudes toward food.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Motivational interviewing counseling sessions
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could offer a practical, low-cost way to improve weight management and healthy eating habits in adults.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is small (54 participants) and short-term, so results may not apply broadly. Success depends on participant engagement and may not lead to lasting weight loss.
